Preschool and Pre-K Outdoor Literacy: Storytelling with a Stick

After reading stories about the wild woods and climbing trees, we walked around the garden gathering interesting items on our playdough-covered sticks. We returned to our den in the garden and told the story of our found items.

"It’s a stick person from a book. There’s a book called Stick Man. That’s why I wanted to make a stick person. He’s really strong and he can jump. He can jump from branch to branch."

"The pinecone fell from the tree. The leaf stayed in the tree. The flower fell down from the tree. I picked the thistle because I liked it."

"I have a leaf. I have a flower and I have an angel. The angel is here to stick. Nobody brought it to the garden. The leaves fell. There are 1,2,3,4,5,6. They are wet because of the rain."

"My stick has a pinecone. It fell down because if the branches move they fall down."

Author Andy Mulligan Visits ISZL middle school

We are honored and excited that Andy will be here on campus Sept. 12th and 13th. He will be working with all English classes during his busy two days.
His book "Trash" was one of the Battle of the Book Books last year.  With over 60 students having read this gripping mystery about the dump children of Manila the discussions should be lively.
