Junior Library

Zug Campus Junior Library

The Junior Library welcomes children to explore books and literature in an inquiry setting. The library plays an important role in the Primary Years Programme, supporting the units of inquiry in the classrooms and helping teach the skills needed for students to become lifelong learners. Children also learn library and information skills, and how they can use the library to enhance their classroom learning experience.

During the school day, Preschool and Pre-Kindergarten students experience the joy of books during Outdoor Learning. Literature and literacy activities and opportunities to enjoy stories are provided. These students are encouraged to borrow books from a rich collection in their classroom libraries. Classroom teachers bring students to the library to look for books when they have an interest or inquiry. Half-day students may also attend Community Story Time with a parent or caregiver.

Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students visit once per week with their class.
•Kindergarten and Grade 1 students not only explore the joy and inspiration of books but also learn early research skills through non-fiction texts. Students may enjoy the Senior Library with adult guidance.
•Grade 2 students transition between the Junior and Senior Libraries. They learn research foundation skills, the importance of books in their learning, and are exposed to a variety of genres to encourage a love of reading for pleasure.

The Junior Library is a well-equipped resource centre, including a teaching area with SMART Board. It contains more than 9,000 materials, including fiction books, non-fiction books, audio books, playaways, magazines, early emergent readers, a section with books in many languages and student-use computers.

In addition, the Library Team organises several book fairs each year, offering a wide selection of quality titles, in English, for purchase.

Volunteers

We would not be able to run our library without the many people who donate their time each week. If you are interested in volunteering for a few hours each week in the Junior Library, please contact Jennifer Bell at Jennifer.Bell@iszl.ch. We would love for you to join us.

Thank you,
The ISZL Library Team
